BGH Classic Pack - Get Your Cult On

Here are Bloody Good Horror, we're not content to watch only the "cult classics" mainstream viewers are familiar with. Films like "sex, lies and videotape" or "Heathers." No, we go deep to digest the cult classics that dwell at the depths of the horror genre. In some cases, our mission leads to gold, like "Pieces." Sometimes it gives you a mild headache, like in "Eraserhead."

But every time it leads to some good podcast.

Horror Headlines: Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

On this day in History all the way back in 1933 the first Drive-In movie theater opened up in Camden, New Jersey. I know, i'm crying too. Let's just hold each other for a while.

"True Blood" actress Mariana Klaveno has her sultry little eyes set on playing Lily Mubnter in the upcoming "Munsters" reboot titled "Mockingbird Lane". Problem is she's already signed a contract to play a role on the ABC series "Devious Maids", which has already been canned but may move to Lifetime. So she's all "I wanna play Lily Munster!" And they're all "but you have to do our stupid show!" And she's all "But I didn't know about the Lily Munster role when I agreed to do your stupid show!" And They're all "Too bad stupid!". That's an actual transcript.

Rumor has it that the script for "Phantasm 5" has already been completed and the project will begin filming sometime this year. Nothing has been officially announced and seeing that Angus Scrimm is pushing 90 there's a solid chance he won't be filling The Tall Mans shoes but if we all hold hands and pray then maybe we can make this happen. Let's sing a song now.

IFC Midnight has swooped in to grab the rights to "Replicas", a new home invasion flick from first time director Jeremy Power Regimbal. The movie, about a family who find themselves trapped in their suburban home after moving to start a new life after a tragic event, has yet to be given a release date but may find it's way to VOD later this year. It will also probably play in some weird crappy theater that smells like falafel and doesn't serve popcorn because it isn't eco friendly.

This sounds like a joke but it isn't. At least I don't think it is. Clive Barker, as in "Hellraiser" Clive Barker, has signed on to rewrite the script for the film "Zombies vs. Gladiators". The film, as you might have guessed, is about a group of Roman gladiators who must battle a horde of zombies after they're unleashed on the Colosseum by a aging shaman. This sounds both insane and awesome at the same time.

In Real People News:

It's a simple rule of summer that a lot of us forget. If a 9 year old hits you with a water balloon you have every right to push him on the ground and kick the crap out of him. It's a law in most states.

I will give any man 100 dollars if they can read this story about a North Carolina woman who squeezed a man's privates so hard that one of his balls popped out and no squirm in their seat.

Horror Headlines: Thursday, March 29th, 2011

I use to love "Mr. Show" but for some reason over the years I have really grown to hate David Cross. Don't ask me why. But his better half from the show, Bob Odenkirk, I still love. He's adorable. And he's been cast as the Devil in the new R rated stop motion flick "Hell and Back". The animated romp revolves around a group of friends who travel into the underworld to save their friend from eternal damnation. Ya know. For the kids.

Remember the show "Terra Nova"? I do actually! Which ruins every joke I had going in my head. But for those of you who don't, it was a short lived Steven Spielberg produced show on Fax that revolved around a group of travelers who go back in time... or to a different world... or something. I don't know, there were dinosaurs. Well the show tanked but Netflix decided to take it on and continue to stream the series. Until now that is. They've decided to ax the entire thing. That was a lot of work to get to the point of this wasn't it? I hope you appreciate it.

People go gaga over Clive Barker's 1990 film "Nightbreed". I'm not here to judge... It's not my favorite. There I said it! But people are going to get moist now I'm sure because Clive has dropped the news that he is very much in talks to bring the movie to the little screen with a new series. The show will apparently be on cable but no news as of yet on who might pick it up, when it might air or what it will even be about. I'd bet it won't even happen but man let's not let that ruin our excitement.

Will someone look up my last news item on "Child’s Play"? I don't remember if i said it was on or off. Or don't, I'm not the boss of you. Either way today the news is that the remake is not only a go but so is a spin off film about Chucky’s immediate family. I have no idea what that means but I'm not too concerned because the whole thing will be scrapped next week. Or maybe not. I'm a glass half full kind of guy.

In Real People News:

There's a lot of weird parenting methods out there. The girl from the Aerosmith videos is pre-chewing her son's food for example. But this couple in Illinois are trying their own method of keeping their 12 year old in line. In short, any time the little bugger gets out of line they make him eat screws. I assume they don't chew them up for him first.

There's got to be some kind of award for this. An Indiana man is under arrest after police found him sleeping on the side of the road with a blood alcohol level of 0.552 percent. For those of you keeping track at home that's almost 7 times the legal limit. I mean I guess there is an award; You go to jail. That's a terrible award though.

Horror Headlines: Friday October 1st, 2010

David Hackl, the director of "Saw V" has got a new film coming out called "Red Machine" and today we've got our first image. The movie is about a bear that goes nuts and kills people so the image is of... you guessed it, a pissed off bear. Well played!

For those of you who enjoy the written word, Clive Barker is just about wrapped up with "The Scarlet Gospels", the final chapter in his "Hellraiser" series. Hopefully they'll make a movie out of it, because pictures are better then words. Fact!

Ciaran Hinds is in talks to play the Devil in the upcoming "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" film. What's better? Some Italian actress/singer named Violante Placido is apparently in talks to join the cast as well. I've never heard of her and from what I've seen on Google Images she's never heard of clothing either.

Finally here's some new images from "My Soul to Take". They've got a kid freakin out and then another one with some kids drawing straws and... oh god I just don't have it in me anymore. This movie is going to be awful.

Hugh Jackman may be looking to turn in his claws for a set of torture tools as rumors start to leak that he is now attached to the upcoming thriller, "Prisoners".

Clive Barker is back behind the keyboard again, this time with a new short story collection titled "Black is the Devil's Rainbow: Tales of a Journeyman".

Michael C. Hall sits down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss The series finale of "Dexter" as well the future of the series.

In Real People News:

A Brooklyn man is stabbed to death on the elliptical machine at his local gym, apparently for not letting the thugs have their turn. You'd think all that stabbing would keep them in shape. Guess not.

I'm not necessarily saying that Marijuana is safer than alcohol... I'm just saying that a high dude would never burn down his house because his wife wouldn't give him a cigarette. He'd probably just take a nap and hope she'd changed her mind by the time he woke up.

Horror Headlines: Thursday September 17th, 2009

Clive Barker's comic book "Seduth" will be presented in 3D when it's released in October. The story follows "a man driven by his darkest impulses to oblivion and back after being exposed tot he contents of a priceless diamond".

Picture this: A sitcom called "Coffee & Donuts" starring Joe Lynch and Adam Green. Ya, that was the same reaction I had. Apparently it will be based on Green's first short film, and had originally been pitched to UPN a few years ago. Now that the rights have floated back Green's way, he is pitching it as a vehicle for him and Lynch, and studios are showing interest. This may be enough to get me back into watching regular television. Stay tuned!

Sony has picked up the rights to "[REC]2" from the Toronto International Film Festival. Sony was previously responsible for the remake "Quarantine", as well as releasing the original film on DVD.

First TV spot for "Saw VI". So, it's officially that time of year when your non horror-loving friends start saying "they're really making ANOTHER one of these???".

In Real People News:

Canadian man jailed for life after 19th DUI. I'd say it's pretty safe to say at that point that he's going to do it again.

This guy was a little smarter. He beat a drunk driving rap by claiming he drank all of the alcohol in the time between when he stopped and when the police got to his car. The court could not prove that he was drunk when he was actually driving, so now he's free. Now THAT takes balls.

Horror Headlines: Thursday August 13th, 2009

Looks like there's another "Riddick" movie coming our way in the future... because if it's one thing we all need, it's more Vin Diesel??

The remake of "The Legend of Boggy Creek" has a cast. In other news, "The Legend of Boggy Creek" is being remade? There aren't even words to describe this remake disease anymore.

New "Sorority Row" poster, again, utilizing it's biggest um... "assets". I'm ashamed to say it's sort of working on me.

Brian Singer might be directing a "sequel" to the 70's "Battlestar Galactica" series? Doesn't that seem odd when the Syfy series actually has a fairly big following? Nothing is concrete at this point, but the rumor is that Universal is pursuing Singer to produce and possibly direct the film.

Here's a cool story... Clive Barker to produce television series penned by Marcus Dunston and Patrick Melton, who wrote and directed "The Collector" which just came out recently. The series is about a "haunted hotel". Sounds pretty sweet!

In Real People News:

Next time someone tells you American television is out of control, you could probably point them in the direction of this Brazilian fellow who was just arrested for having murdering people, for the sole purpose of having gruesome murders to report on his crime show. Pretty sure there's a movie script in there somewhere... have at it writers!

Live in California? Love testicles? Well you're in luck, as Santa Cruz County is about to hold their first ever "testicle festival". At the festival, farmers and ranchers will be serving up all different kinds of animal nuts. Enjoy!

1521: After an 80-day siege, Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortés captures Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztec Empire. When the Spaniards fail to discover Montezuma's treasure, they torture Cuauhtemoc by pouring hot oil over his feet. The emperor responds by asking, "Am I on a bed of roses?" They hang him three years later.

Clive Barker's "Book of Blood" trailer

First published in the US in 1984, the frame story for Clive Barker's Books of Blood has finally been filmed as, simply, "Book of Blood", with Barker producing and John Harrison adapting and directing. The North American premiere is at the Montreal Fantasia film festival on July 13th, 2009, with a DVD and Blu-Ray street date of September 29th.

The story revolves around a paranormal researcher hiring a supposed psychic to investigate a haunted house. The dead actually do begin to communicate with the psychic... but they do more than just talk.

Lost "Nightbreed" Footage is Just out of Reach

It's long been known that Clive Barker was ham stringed by his studio when helming the big screen adaptation of his story "Night Breed." Forced to cut nearly 25 minutes of footage from the final release, there has been much demand in the world of fandom for a director's cut.

Sadly, for nearly 20 years now Barker's response has been "I hope so, but we don't know where the footage is." According to the folks over at the long running Clive Barker fansite CliveBarker.info, this lost footage is no longer lost.
