The Conjuring

The Doll From "The Conjuring" is the Star of John Leonetti's "Annabelle" (Trailer)

"The Conjuring" was a divisive movie. You either really dug it, or really didn't care for it. So which camp were you in? I hope it's the camp that liked it, because your'e getting more!

Horror Headlines: Thursday January 30th, 2014

Content Film has announced they will once again be teaming up with the folks that brought you "The Machine" to bring you "Don't Knock Twice". Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler, who I've never met in person in case you were wondering, will pen the script for the film which will apparently be about some sort of spooky urban legend type thing. What I'm saying is details are light, but I assume knocking will be involved.

Anyone want to see the trailer for the upcoming "From Dusk Till Dawn" TV show? No, no one does. That was a trick question. The show premieres on March 11th on the El Rey Network, which is apparently a thing, and pretty much follows the same plot at the 1996 Robert Rodriguez flick. Still think you might want to see it? What if I told you Rodriguez has nothing to do with the project? That did it? Glad I could help.

Raven Banner Entertainment has dropped news that they will be moving forward with a big screen adaptation of Clive Barker's "Jacqueline Ess: Her Will And Testament". The short story tells the tale of a young lass who has the ability to change people's shape with her mind. So ya know, big peepees come into play I assume. Production is set to begin sometime this fall.

Apparently during my crazy leave it was announced that "Annabelle", the creepy doll from "The Conjuring" would be getting it's own spin off film. Well it looks like Eric Ladin and Brian Howe have both been added to the cast. I have no idea if this is good news or not. I don't know who these guys are. I don't know what this movie is about. I'm so frightened and confused by what else I might have missed.

In Real People News:

A Philadelphia man is under arrest after he crashed his car into a fried chicken restaurant and then got out of his car, stripped down to nothing and went to town on himself. Because ya know, you're not going to want to do that after you get a belly full of fried chicken.

I've always wondered what would happen if you were getting mugged and it turned out you really didn't have any money. Well if you're in Florida apparently you get slapped in the face with a dick. I'm not surprised by this at all honestly.

The Best Horror Films of 2013

While tallying the final votes for the annual BGH Top Ten countdown, one trend became immediately clear, even if it wasn’t obvious as the year progressed: 2013 was the year of the alt-horror movie. Some may argue the point, but depending on your tally, we’re looking at roughly three of the top ten and six of the top 15 films that could be considered “true” horror -- that is, film’s whose primary aim is to scare and excite.

The reality is that starting with the number one film, and moving down the top ten, most of these films come with caveats or tongues planted firmly in cheek.

Best of 2013 - Evan's Take

The Best!

10. Warm Bodies
2013 has been full of zombie movies, games, and books, so it was nice to have some comedy in the midst of all of the “serious” zombie business. Nick Holt managed to be an engaging and fun zombie just looking for some love.

9. Mama

Best of 2013 - Charlie's Take

Top 10

10. Dark Skies
Simple but effective. 'Dark Skies' is a derivative alien invasion film but strong performances and solid effects combine for a decent horror romp.

9. This is the End
A riotous good time with a slew of famous faces keep this apocalyptic comedy generating laughs and fun throughout.

8. The World's End

Though we will always have great suggestions and fun picks to throw their way, we're not always 100% caught up to date with the best options during the season. So here at BloodyGoodHorror we have a listing of some of the strongest suggestions theatrically, rental wise, and even the most up to date Netflix Instant suggestions.

Horror Headlines: Wednesday August 7th, 2013

I'm very excited to announce that the PA who is responsible for updating Slash's twitter account recently decided to start following us. For that reason alone I have nothing bad to say about "Nothing Left to Fear", a new horror flick that Slash is producing about a family who moves into a small town only to find they're a part of a strange ritual. I will however mock Canada, which will now be able to see the film thanks to Raven Banner which recently picked up the rights to distribute the film up in America's hat. I mean I'm not going to do it here. I just want it to be known that I will mock them.

Remember the 2006 film "See No Evil"? That's right it's that movie you saw on the selves and thought, "hey isn't that Kane from the WWF?!" and then moved on. Well it looks like the powers that be have decided the film needs a sequel and that it needs to be directed by Jen and Sylvia Soska AKA the Twisted Twins. For those of you keeping track at home the duo was responsible for "American Mary", which we all went gaga over on the podcast recently. So I have no idea what the hell is going to come out of it but I'm 99% sure Mark is going to love it.

While nothing is confirmed there's some news out there in the interwebs that Carey and Chad Hayes, the brothers who wrote "The Conjuring", are looking at a story in the Warren archives about two sisters in England who were reportedly possessed in the late 70s for the follow up to this year's hit film. Isn't it nice that we've had two stories about twins in today's news? Makes me feel all warm inside. Also a little uncomfortable before twins are creepy as hell and unnatural.

I'm not saying this is right or wrong but it looks like the Weinstein company is asking that 20 minutes be cut from Bong Joon-ho's "Snowpiercer" before it hits US theaters. The reason for the request is that the company wants to make sure us folks in the midwest can understand the story, which focuses on a group of survivors traveling on a train after the world has frozen over. I mean the current running time is 126 minutes... so ya know... I'm not saying anything.

In Real People News:

Good news kids! They've cloned beef in the UK, grilled it up into a burger and confirmed it tastes "close to meat". Insert your own White Castle jokes here.

A Washington man is facing felony charges because he reportedly blew up his dog because he thought his ex-girlfriend put the devil inside of it. I mean I don't condone hurting animals but let's be honest on the off chance that the devil was in fact inside the dog don't you feel better know that it's in a thousand little pieces on this guy's front lawn right now rather than roaming the streets? Me too.

Horror Headlines: Wednesday July 17th, 2013

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights already sounds pretty dandy with a "Cabin In the Woods" maze being announced this year and now there's news that a "Evil Dead" maze will be landing in both Hollywood and Orlando parks. I for one am very excited for the opportunity to see a morbidly obese man dressed up as Ash. I think that's probably the way we'd all want it at least.

"The Conjuring" doesn't come out until this Friday but New Line is throwing caution to the wind and already working on a sequel for the film. Based on what's supposed to a be a true story the film follows paranormal investigators who try to help a family being terrorized by an evil spirit. Early reviews have been decent, there's a solid chance this will be a hit and I've been sleeping pretty well so I say let's just go for it.

Good news? Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller took to the twitters to answer the question of when a "Friday the 13th" sequel would begin production. It looks like fairly soon actually, within the next month once they finish off their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project. I can't begin to tell you how filthy that last sentence made me feel.

I completely forgot that this movie was happening but it looks like "Paranormal Activity 5" is being pushed to next year, with a January 6, 2014 being lined up. No word on why the change is being made but if I was a betting man I'd put my money on... honestly I have no idea. Trouble finding the right cleavage for the film? They've got to be running out of actresses who are willing to prance around in a tank top pretending to be afraid of ghosts at this point.

In Real People News:

Being pregnant has got to be pretty miserable and I can imagine towards the end you've got to be looking for any way to get things going. But this woman who was struck by lightning and then gave birth probably would've just put up with the constant peeing for a couple more weeks. I don't know though. I don't have lady parts.

Here's what you've been waiting for. A half hour infomercial for the 2013 Gathering of the Juggalos.

Horror Headlines: Tuesday June 11th, 2013

James Wan's "The Conjuring" will make it's big debut at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 21st. The film is supposedly based on a true story of two paranormal investigators who try to help a family being terrorized by an evil spirit. The film will then see a wide release on July 19th. I will be on a podcast shortly after that talking about how the whole thing is BS.

I've been holding off on seeing the Hammer classic "Dracula: Prince of Darkness" for 35 years because there has yet to be a US Blu-Ray release for the film. I know, it's weird that I would take a firm stance for so long considering that Blu-Ray hasn't even been around for 10 years. Well good news for me because the Christopher Lee blood sucker is finally coming our way thanks to Millennium Entertainment on September 3rd. I'll be chock full of commentary, behind the scenes features and other extras. I don't pretend to understand my madness.

Daniel Radcliffe doesn't have half the forehead that Christina Ricci has but still he's going to play Igor in Paul McGuigan's "Frankenstein". I'm not really sure why you need a big forehead for that but the film has been slapped with a October 17, 2014 release date so let's see how Radcliffe does with this bold casting move. Again I don't really know why Ricci's big forehead would make her a better choice but I stand by my statement.

Adam McKay , the guy who produced "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters", has let out that director Tommy Wirkola is being let loose to make the sequel as balls out as he'd like. I guess that also means if the follow up is a pile of doody it's all Wirkola's fault but let's look on the positive side here.

In Real People News:

Apparently it's illegal to place a sex ad on Craigslist for your neighbor if she pisses you off. Thank god I found this out before the weekend.

What do you do when you're a youngster on the way to school and you spot a man having sex with a dog? You whip out your cell phone and record the whole thing for all to enjoy. At least that's what these kids in Detroit did. They eventually showed their school's secretary who called the police and the man was arrested but I like to think it made the rounds in homeroom before that. This is Detroit after all.
