An American Werewolf in London (REVIEW)

The werewolf taps into those ever constant horror themes that can easily work in many given contexts: bodily control, the uncanny combination of human and inhuman forms, instinctual nature and astrological influences, fear of the “other” and abject within ourselves, infection and spread of disease, etc. Like any of the long-standing horror mythologies that have made their way into cinema the exemplary werewolf stories utilize this literal transformation of person into wolf for dual means.

Oh boy oh boy! "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D" is just 9 years away from hitting theaters, give or take 8 years, and today we've got our first look at pictures from the set. At least I think they're from the set. It's either the set or Germany, I still can't tell. Wait it's being filmed in Germany? This worked out perfectly!

Christopher Nolan has confirmed that next installment in the Batman franchise, titled "The Dark Knight Rises" will be filmed in the fine city of Pittsburgh, PA. I'm pretty sure the move from Chicago is happening solely because Nolan saw that same Food Network show I did about that place in Pittsburgh that makes giant sandwiches with fries on them. If I made movies I would base my locations on places I want to eat too.

I haven't seen "Wolf Creek" but Greg McLean who directed it has dreamy eyes so I feel compelled to tell you about "Crawlspace", a new underground "hey what the hell is going on here" flick. Excited? No? What if I told you the movie stars a bunch of people you've never heard of? Still no huh... How about that weather?

"It's like 'An American Werewolf In Paris' meets 'Fight Club.'" Tell me more Katee Sackhoff! I like both of those movies so I'm going to love your movie "Growl" aren't I?! Wolves fighting each other in underground tournaments while Brad Pitt commands them all to do his bidding! I assume Brad Pitt will be in this movie Katee. You can't have Werewolf Fight Club without him!

In Real People News:

Driving and talking on a cell phone, bad. Driving and shooting up meth? That's got to be super bad, right? Of course if you're in a rush what are you suppose to do. I'm sure this women from Oklahoma had a good reason.

Ever been at a party that's super fun and everyone's dancing around to the rock n roll music and then some prick comes along and starts puking everywhere and the party is ruined? Me too! Did you want to shoot that guy in the stomach 4 times? No? Well these teenagers in Arizona didn't think it was so insane so now who's the dumb one?!

Fernley Phillips, the guy who wrote "The Number 23" is apparently in talks to write the already announced remake of "An American Werewolf in London". I have no idea if this is good or bad news because I've never seen "The Number 23" and I don't know anyone who has. Oh wait, I think that makes this bad news.

A new one sheet for the Italian zombie 3D flick "The Horde" is out and about this morning and while I can't read it I assume is says something along the lines of "Even though we're dead we still want wine and pasta! We've come for your wine and pasta!". 99% Sure I've made that joke on here before. Hey, reruns!

A new British comic artist Simon Bisley has created a kick ass poster for the newly released Neil Marshall film "Centurion". What's the main focus of the poster you might ask? Why giant softball shaped boobs of course. It's nice to a comic guy going in a different direction for once with his art.

In Real People News:

Seems kind of obvious but police in Anchorage Alaska are warning people to not taser bears after one of their own did just that. Apparently the effects don't really last on a giant bear and once they're gone shit hits the fan pretty quickly.

On this day in history:

1962 - Actress Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her Los Angeles home at age 36. (Her death was ruled a probable suicide from an overdose of sleeping pills.)

The DVD Bargain Bin

Okay, not to sound uppity here but if you don't know what "American Werewolf in London" is all about? You need to get on that. That's a minus from your cool points. For this Full Moon Edition, we have a nifty transfer for both DVD and Blu-Ray. Also included are over 100 minutes of extras including retrospectives, making of vignettes on Baker's werewolf, and lots of John Landis wisecracks.
