Ground Zero (REVIEW)

Ground Zero

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. A laboratory gets broken into and an experimental virus is stolen. It gets ingested and turns its victims into animalistic zombies who crave human flesh…

Oh, you’ve seen that movie before? Several times, you say? That’s probably why, unless you have a burning desire to see it all over again, you can skip “Ground Zero.” Directed by Channing Lowe, this is a movie that offers no originality or new ideas on the “zombie outbreak” concept, instead relying on clichés and tired concepts.

Resident Evil: Retribution (REVIEW)

I've always looked at Paul W.S. Anderson as a bit of an idiot-savant, a child using filmmaking tools that he didn't quite understand, every once in a while striking on something good accidentally. This was especially true of the last "Resident Evil" film, "Afterlife", the first he'd directed since the original.

ParaNorman novel released on July 5th

Anyone excited for the upcoming movie, "ParaNorman", (coming out August 17th in the US) should be lining up at the stores this week on July 5th for which the book the movie is based. The book is only a Grade 3 reading level - but hey, don't act like you aren't going to see the movie. I'm also a huge advocate of reading the literature before the seeing the film, and who doesn't enjoy comparing the two, only to gripe or rejoice in the similarities and differences?

George Romero's Book, "The Living Dead: The Beginning" drops this summer

We all know and love him as the grandfather of the zombie genre, and in typical grandfather fashion, George Romero is letting us know he’s still around and we should give him a call. Set to be released on July 1st, 2012, Romero has penned his first solo book: "The Living Dead: The Beginning." If you want to check it out, it's available for preorder with all major book dealers.

The Terror Experiment (REVIEW)

More and more I am finding much to love in the DTV and SyFy Channel type movie circuit. You know the ones I mean (and if you don’t what are you doing reading at this site, amirite? I kid, of course.). If I see a DVD cover with a little icon in one of the corners that says “Man-Eater Series” or something along those lines I am immediately sold. For our particular time and place these films are perhaps the closest thing we can get to the “Gindhouse” of years gone by.
