"Daybreakers" Trailer

I was a pretty big fan of Michael and Peter Spierig's over-the-top 2003 horror/comedy "Undead" back in the day, going as far as to import a relatively expensive Region 4 DVD long before it arrived on American shores. Yeah, sometimes I can be pretty pathetic like that. And while I do believe the film had its share of problems, the good points, in this geek's humble opinion, greatly outweighed the bad. Besides, it's not everyday you get to watch an gun-crazy Australian redneck battle a flesh-eating zombie fish. I'm just saying.

This convoluted introduction serves to explain why, exactly, I'm pretty excited about the brothers' upcoming vampiric dystopia flick "Daybreakers," which is tentatively scheduled for release on January 8, 2010. The picture, which stars Ethan Hawke, genre veteran Willem Dafore, and the always cool Sam Neil, takes place in a world where blood-suckers are the majority and the human (aka lunch) are the minority.

From IMDb:

In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.

Color me jazzed and pretty pumped. The trailer is, for lack of a better term, solid, and it doesn't hurt that they utilized Placebo's cover of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," either. Here's hoping Lionsgate treats this potentially awesome flick appropriately.

Todd has been a slave to the horror genre for as long as he can remember. After cutting his teeth on late-night Cinemax schlock and the low-budget offerings found on the classic USA program "Up All Night," our hero moved valiantly into the world of sleazy obscura, consuming the oddest films from around the world with the reckless abandon of a man without fear or reason. When he isn't sitting mindlessly in front of a television set, he can be found stuffing music, video games, and various literary scribblings into his already cluttered mindscape.
