Album Review: Autopsy - The Headless Ritual

I like to think of myself as being somewhat well-versed on metal and its history. But there are limits to anyone's capacity for knowledge, and when it comes to metal, mine is a mile wide and an inch deep. Only getting into heavy music after the glory days of the first wave bands was long over, my knowledge of the seminal roots of metal will never be as complete as someone who lived through those times, nor have I put in the effort to come closer.

Album Review: Autopsy - "Macabre Eternal"

Over all the years, projects, lineups, albums and EPs, Chris Reifert has become nothing if not the picture of consistency. Reunited with original Autopsy members Danny Coralles and Eric Cutler, and joined by Joe Trevisano of Abscess, Autopsy has released “Macabre Eternal,” the band’s latest unapologetic assault on musical convention, trend and quite possibly good taste.

Heavy Metal News Updates!

Hey there, kids! Just a few tidbits that slid across my ethereal desk to pass along:

*First and foremost, Rob Zombie announced to the world that he has been given the honor of inducting father of shock rock Alice Cooper into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Zombie tweeted Tuesday night around 10 PM Eastern:

I am inducting Alice Cooper into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Crazy. Greatest honor of my life. Love The Coop.

Album Review: Autopsy - "The Tomb Within" EP

Somehow, even after all the years of latent dormancy, three of the four original members of Autopsy can come back together and still rock it. It must be like riding a bike, as this incarnation of the long-thought-to-be-dead gore metal classic hasn't really missed a step relative to their other works.

Album Review: Abscess - "Dawn of Inhumanity"

I admit this is not what I thought it would be.

From hearing the description and reading the band’s press release, I truly expected Abscess’ new effort “Dawn of Inhumanity” to be a mess. I thought it would be visceral and unrefined; a slogging pile of steaming metaphor and brutal imagery.

"Cadaver" Streaming At IFC On Demand

Generally speaking, I'm an equal opportunity employer when it comes investigating creepy supernatural thrillers, even if said pelicula contains the dreaded "long haired girl" popping in and out of the shadows. However, in the past, Thai horror films haven't exactly gone out of their way to impress me. I don't know if something gets lost in translation or if there's too much culture clash getting in the way of the terror -- either way, my success rate with their disjointed brand of Asian horror isn't very good.

Autopsy (REVIEW)

A group of twenty-somethings party it up in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Heading home for the night they happen across a man in a hospital robe in the middle of the road. Swerving to avoid him they careen off the road and slam headfirst into a tree. Shaken and banged up, the group of friends mill about aimlessly as they ponder what to do.
