I've avoided the world of MMORPGS's (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, but you know that you nerd) for quite some time, mostly because I barely have time to play games that don't require me to meet real-time goals. With World of Warcraft blowing up to the point of inviting a parody on South Park, it's safe to say that MMO's have reached far beyond their previous demographic, which included for lack of a better term, basement dwellers. With WoW over-saturation imminent, some gamers are looking for a slightly "edgier" alternative to the bright colors and pointy eared elves. The developers of "Fallen Earth" hope to attract those gamers with a post-apocalyptic MMORPG that takes place in the American Southwest.
If you discount the awful music in the trailer, it seems like it could be pretty interesting, at least to mess around with. Unfortunately, the rumored/planned Fallout MMO is likely to overlap quite a bit in nearly every way, and will have a dedicated fanbase right out of the box, an advantage which most small developers can't compete with. Nevertheless, If you're dying to find a new way to kill massive amounts of time, you can get yourself in on some testing at FallenEarth.com.
