Concert Review: Overkill, God Forbid

On a rainy, bitter night, Overkill came to town and brought friends. The fans tolerated the chill and the dowsing with quiet fortitude, standing stoically in line awaiting their chance to pay tribute to the thrash legends and the crew they brought with them. This is the type of following and faith engendered by Overkill as they make headway in their fourth decade of writing and performing. Armed with their new album "The Electric Age," the Jersey veterans came to kick ass and chew bubblegum. You can venture a guess what they were all out of.

Concert Review - Overkill, Warbringer

The Webster Theater in Hartford is not an especially friendly venue. It doesn't boast any particular character or amazing features. Rather, it is just an open space with a stage and some bars, painted over to make it look grander than it is. The walls are decked with signs telling customers in no uncertain terms what they cannot do; no smoking, no moshing, no crowd surfing, no stage diving, etc. Lucky for the Webster Theater, that doesn't prevent the shows inside from being excellent. So, I walked in for Killfest 2010.

Album Review: Overkill - "Ironbound"

Evaluating an Overkill album is at this point much the same operation as evaluating an AC/DC album. If you like one, you’ll like them all. So for me, it’s more a question of how much I like the album relative to other Overkill efforts. I’m always curious to see what new minor cosmetic tweaks the band has made ever since finding their stride with “The Years of Decay” in 1989. Much the same as their American thrash contemporaries over the past two or so years, Overkill does not disappoint with their newest release, “Ironbound.”

Horror Headlines: Tuesday April 28th, 2009

Megan Fox in a Corset on the set of "Jonah Hex". Yes please.

David R. Ellis to bring us "Humpty Dumpty". The new film by the "Final Destination 2" and "FD: Deathtrip 3D" director is about: "a half-human, half alien creature who embarks on a murderous rampage after his alien mother is abused by two rednecks in the deep South." Oh, it will also be in 3D, so there's that.

Ving Rhames gets cast in "Piranha 3D", pretty much ensuring at some point a fish will get blasted with a shotgun. Good times.

Ridley Scott considering a return to the "Alien" franchise? I suppose the chances are slim that he'd get a sequel greenlit, but even if it's a remake I suppose the original director is the one you'd want on board.

Evan Rachel Wood joins "True Blood", I start to think perhaps there's a reason I should be watching this show. Hmmmm....

The rest of the episodes of "Harper's Island" will run on Saturdays at 9:00pm on CBS. They've all but given up on the show being a ratings success, but since the episodes were already produced they figured they should let it run out. Saturdays are typically filled with reruns for most networks anyways, so there's no real loss for them shifting to that night. Apparently the show was going to be canceled outright, but it was significant DVR ratings that saved it from the ax.

In Real People News:

I would imagine you have to really love someone in order to have dumpster sex with them. Now THAT'S passion.

Man cuts off finger and eats it to protest about unpaid wages. Methinks that might make it a little harder to do the job he's protesting about in the first place, no?

On this day in history:

1945: Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and his mistress Clara Petacci are captured by partisan fighters and executed.

Gory Workplace Safety Video

Luckily for me I work at a job where I can sit on my fat ass and look at a computer screen all day. It’s the American dream, really. Unfortunately, some people out there actually have to lift crap and use energy at their job. When the hell do they check their Gmail?

Don’t you think for a second that I don’t thank my lucky stars every night before I go to bed that I am not one of those people. I often wake up in a cold sweat from the nightmares I have about having to do physical labor.
