The phrase “love letter” is one of the most pervasive yet stale of critical tools used to describe an object so imbued with its makers’ passions that it cannot be properly classified in any other way that forgoes the personal. Writer/director Leos Carax’s Holy Motors is a film swiftly building a fierce reputation for just such reasons.

Snapshot: "Dead Shadows" (2012)

"Dead Shadows" is a french film about a teen named Chris whose parents were brutally killed 11 years ago, on a day that Haley's comet could be seen from Earth. Now there's a new comet making an appearance and of course, as any good 80's throwback film would have it, the Earthlings are partying it up. But then Chris notices that people are starting to act weird and violent. Uh-oh.
