"Stung" Trailer Pits Caterers Against Mutant Wasps

In the trailer for Stung, a collection of rambunctious party crashers descend on a demure, upper class garden party. It’s not rowdy teens, it’s somehow much worse: mutated and very angry killer wasps. It’s up to the surviving partygoers and a pair of will-they, won’t-they (you know they totally will) caterers to fight off the winged menaces.

Julia (Jessica Cook) and Paul (Matt O’Leary) are the caterers in this case. At the start of the trailer, Paul is very clearly into Julia and Julia is very clearly not into Paul. Of course, as Jurassic World taught us earlier this summer, all it takes is some sort of science experiment run amok to kick start a relationship. In this case, that kick start could very well come in the form of mutant wasps. Their chemistry certainly seems to improve once the party takes a turn for the worst.

There’s plenty of gross-out effects in the trailer, from the usual bug-movie ooze to the evolving and growing wasps themselves. It’s mostly light on laughs, unless Julia endlessly rolling her eyes at Paul while he plays your average Seth Rogen character works for you. One source of chuckles is Clifton Collins Jr. who shows up as the uptight son of the party’s hostess and who also knows a thing or two about bugs.

Stung was directed by Benni Diez and written by Adam Aresty. It’s currently available on VOD.
