Residents of Nilbog calling all short filmmakers

You may or may not know that I am a huge fan of "Troll 2", considered by many to be the worst film ever made. And if you've been paying attention, you'd also know that the film's child star is criss-crossing the country as we speak putting the finishing touches on his documentary, "Best Worst Movie", which essentially celebrates the bad-movie goodness of "Troll 2".

We interviewed Michael this past Fall, and I instantly became more enamored with the film than ever. A child star embracing the fact that he was in the worst movie ever, and making a documentary about it? Sign me up!

Well, now that we've got the primer out of the way, I wanted to post this press release I found in my inbox today. Apparently, as part of the whole "Troll 2" celebration, the makers of the "Best Worst Movie" doc are holding a short film contest. Troll 2 Enthusiasts invited to create film inspired by “best worst movie”; Top 10 chosen by public, Winner receives VIP trip to Nilbog

AUSTIN, TX - (April 7, 2008) – Filmmakingfrenzy.com, a popular website for hosting filmmaking competitions, has launched a contest seeking the best Troll 2 inspired film. The competition, open to everyone, will give fans the opportunity to honor their favorite film, Troll 2, by creating a short film (up to five minutes in length). All films must be inspired by or be an homage to Troll 2.

The top 10 films will be chosen by online voting at filmmakingfrenzy.com and will be screened for audiences at the upcoming Nilbog Invasion Event, a weekend long Troll 2 festival hosted by Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse. The Nilbog Invasion event takes place June 27-29 in Morgan, Utah, the original filming location for Troll 2.

The winning film will be selected by Michael “Joshua” Stephenson, Troll 2 lead actor and director/writer of “Best Worst Movie,” the upcoming feature length Troll 2 documentary. The winner will receive an all expense paid VIP trip to attend Nilbog Invasion where they will meet with the cast and crew of Troll 2 and enjoy VIP access to screenings, panels and more.
