The Nuclear Edge, 10/11/08

Afternoon, all. Most often, you've seen me post various reviews here, but every once in a while, I like to just get some thoughts down, or bring you some news I've come across. To that end, I've decided to title those entries "The Nuclear Edge," for reasons probably clear only to me. Moving on.

A couple stray things:
1) I heard a whisper about this a couple days ago, and I sincerely hope it's true. Evidence suggests that Max Cavalera (Sepultura, Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy,) and Eugene Hutz (Gogol Bordello, "Everything is Illuminated,") are combining forces on some kind of musical project. I have no idea what this could possibly sound like, but I am profoundly curious. If this ends up being "Refuse/Resist" with an accordion, it could be the best or worst thing ever, with very little chance of falling somewhere in the middle.

2) Unearth has another album on the way. I have some hope for this band, so I'm interested to see what they come out with.

3) In This Moment cracked the Billboard top 200 at number 70, and I'm forced to say "Really?" I saw these guys and girl open for Rob Zombie. Um....yeah...no thanks. But hey, that's just one man's opinion.

4) Apparently, Danzig has decided he's a huge fan of Winds of Plague, inviting them to open for him on a number of upcoming dates. I haven't decided if I like this band yet, but that may be a damning statement in and of itself.

5) One of my Agents In The Field, who's a metalhead and damn good guy to boot, admitted to me that he's never heard Venom's "Welcome to Hell," or King Dymond's "Abigail." Even if you don't like it, isn't that like, required listening?

A few notes outside metal:

-I got into an argument with a co-worker the other day who tried to convince me that NoFX's "Punk in Drublic" is a superior album to Rancid's "And Out Come the Wolves." Am I even having this conversation? He's crazy, right?

-If the World Series ends up Red Sox/Phillies, I don't think I'll even watch.

-watching the stock market closely....

That's all for now. The Oakland Raiders are 1-3, and have a new coach (the inventor of Denver's semi-phenomenal, nearly illegal blocking scheme,) but they have the Saints tomorrow afternoon. I'm cautiously pessimistic. Least they're better than the Chiefs.
Live Loud.
