BGH Thirsty Thursdays - "The 'Burbs" Drinking Game

Here at Bloody Good Horror we spend much of our time talking about good movies and bad movies alike, and picking apart the things that place titles in either category. In horror specifically, there is a beautiful gradient, comprised of everything from "so bad it's good" to "just plain bad." For many movies in this grey area, the viewing experience itself - who you watch it with and how - can be as important as the movie itself. In that tradition, every first Thursday of the month we'll fondly recall one of those kinds of movies that seem made for the loud and alcohol-fueled viewing party, and give you the framework to host a screening of your very own, complete with imbibing instructions!

Sorry to leave you all hanging last month, but BGH Thirsty Thursdays are back this month with The 'Burbs. Starring national treasure, Tom Hanks as Ray Peterson, The 'Burbs follows the residents of one sleepy suburban block dealing with suspicious new neighbors. When The Klopek's move into a comically dilapidated house down the street and only come out at night, it isn't long before Ray and some of the other men on the street take it upon themselves to find out what the new neighbors are up to. SPOILER ALERT: as it turns out, the real freaks are the "good" neighbors themselves. 

As a card-carrying member of the BGH New Class, and the resident scaredy cat, I remember watching this movie when I was younger and being genuinely terrified by it. Revisiting it now, I can recognize it for the goofy classic that it is and I think watching could only be improved by adding booze and friends to the experience. Plus, can you ever really get enough Tom Hanks?
