"666 Park Ave" Episode 1: Pilot recap!
Fresh off the heels of thriving horror series' like "American Horror Story" and "The Walking Dead", ABC brings us "666 Park Ave", which debuted Sunday night at 10pm and is off to a promising start. The opening scene packs quite a punch and gives us a peak at just what this old apartment building and it's owner, Gavin, will have in store for us this season. Lets take a look at what the pilot episode gave us shall we? There are slight spoilers ahead, but I'll try to stay away from the major stuff.
The key players:
Gavin and Olivia Durand - (Terry O'Quinn and Vanessa Williams) While it hasn't been specifically stated, Gavin is clearly playing the devil or a strong satanic force. Vanessa WIlliams plays his wife, and appears to have a very fixed interest on the new couple in the building, Jane and Henry.
Jane and Henry - Young, attractive and unmarried couple who are given the job as apartment managers. He works for the mayor, she is an out of work architect. They find themselves living in the luxurious apartments of the Drake and attending high class functions with the Durand's.
Brian - A yuppie playwright who spends most of his time looking over his computer and peeping on a young woman who lives in the building across from him, when he should be writing.
Louise - Brians wife, who seems a bit, bitchy, but I guess I would be too if my husband was alway's leering at the women across the street. As luck would have it, when she mentions the possible attraction between Brian and the girl across the street (also her new assistant) she suffers an accident at the hands of the apartment's faulty elevator.
Nona - A teen living in the apartment building, who we find out likes to steal trinkets from the basement laundry area. She apparently also has some sort of psychic ability, as at the end of the episode she has a vision of Jane being chased by someone with an ax.
The Drake - The luxury apartment complex which houses mostly young, rich couples and some middle class families, presumably all of whom have some sort of satanic pact with Gavin Durand.
The series got off to a quick start with an action packed episode that opened a lot of interesting story lines and left us with a few lingering questions. For instance, is anyone else wondering why if the Durand's have a daughter that had passed away, why have they not brought her back, since it's clear they are able to do that for other residents in the apartment? Either way, I'm sure that's something will find out in the upcoming season, and I'll be tuning in to find out.
