Gravitas Horror On Demand

Many of you may already be familiar with FearNET and their on demand horror offerings. As of October 1st, horror fans that subscribe to Dish Network, AT&T Uverse and Verizon FiOS TV will have another On-Demand home for their horror fix in Gravitas Venture's new Horror On-Demand Channel!

Each month Gravitas Ventures will provide at least seven movies to partners with fresh content from leading horror filmmakers, producers and distributors. The horror VOD programming will focus on titles available prior to or simultaneous with each film’s DVD street date or theatrical release, providing operators with the most buzz-worthy titles in a prime release window. In addition, Gravitas Ventures will market content available during the VOD license window via traditional major horror publications, fan sites, blogs and social networking sites to raise awareness for each month’s films.

As we continue to add more and more content to our industry-leading VOD service, we strive to provide all of the genre content that our subscribers want, including this new programming from Gravitas Ventures,” said Terry Denson, vice president of content strategy and acquisition for Verizon. “The Gravitas Horror on Demand package is a nice complement to Gravitas Movies on Demand and Gravitas Events on Demand, which our customers have been enjoying for more than a year.

Video On-Demand channels appear to be where its at for the horror crowd. Sure, there's channels like Chiller out there, but they seem to be dedicated more to old tv shows and and a handful of edited movies. It's nice to be able to pick and choose from a list of features, especially if they are unedited, so this should be a good venture. While they will be going up directly against the likes of FearNET On Demand, the truth of the matter is that we fans win out; we'll have double the free horror flicks to watch.

Judging from the list of launch titles available on October 1st, Gravitas looks like it will be focusing itself on independent features. That's not all bad. There are some real gems out there in Indie Horror and as we've seen, many tend to be better than what Hollywood is putting out these days regardless.

The list of launch movies includes:

Kirk Bowman’s "Bloodsucking Babes from Burbank"
Rusty Nelson’s "Blood Legend"
Kevin de Lullo’s "Edgar Allan Poe’s Darkness"
Christine Parker’s "Forever Dead"
Tiffany Kilbourne’s "Shower of Blood"

Tune in October 1st to see how this new channel plays out! As of this time, there is no concrete information on what package Gravitas Horror on Demand will be included on the three providers, so it is unknown if this will be free a la FearNET or a pay-per-view situation.
