Armin Miewes, one of the more notorious cannibals from Germany (who recently became a vegetarian, good to know) has been the inspiration for quite a few recent forms of media. There was a 2006 film that was banned in Germany, “Butterfly: A Grimm Love Story,” but released in America starring Keri Russell. Also, the ever entertaining dance-metal group Rammstein recorded a song and music video called “Mein Teil.” One of our readers Andrew has also been inspired by the case and made a nifty short film entitled “Rotten” which has been getting attention within the industry.
While not overtly graphic, the film does give me the heebie jeebies with a washed out chiaroscuro appearance that makes it uncertain what is being set on the table or what the inside of the bathtub looks like. Definitely give it a viewing. Also, if you are into a more Grindhouse feel, Andrew also made a trailer for the Nine Inch Nails Ghosts Festival, entitled “Last Fare.” It’s a perfect representation of that grainy sweat stained style of filmmaking.
