New Horror Movies We're Looking Forward to in April 2022

It's April, fool, and here are some of the best new horror movies that will drop over the next 30 days.

April 1

Morbius (theaters)

Its Jared Leto playing a vampire who is a minor Spider-man villain, except Spider-man's not in this. You guys still like Marvel movies, right? I mean, you'd watch a whole franchise of this, wouldn't you? Oh god, please. (sweats profusely)

You Won't Be Alone (theaters)

Set in an isolated mountain village in 19th century Macedonia, You Won’t Be Alone follows a young girl who is kidnapped and then transformed into a witch by an ancient spirit. Curious about life as a human, the young witch accidentally kills a peasant in the nearby village and then takes her victim’s shape to live life in her skin. Her curiosity ignited, she continues to wield this horrific power in order to understand what it means to be human.

The Rental (Netflix)

Two couples on an oceanside getaway grow suspicious that the host of their seemingly perfect rental house may be spying on them. Before long, what should have been a celebratory weekend trip turns into something far more sinister, as well-kept secrets are exposed and the four old friends come to see each other in a whole new light. Dan Stevens and Alison Brie star in this unnerving and sophisticated debut thriller directed by... wait this can't be right, Dave Franco? Huh.


April 5

Midnight (VOD, BR available May 10)

Fear grips the country of South Korea as a serial killer, (Squid Game star, Wi Ha-Jun), stalks its residents. Kyung-mi, a deaf woman, is out late with her mother when she stumbles upon a young woman bleeding out in a dark alley. Now a witness to the killer's brutal crime, Kyung-mi is being ruthlessly hunted down. Will she survive or become his victim?


April 7

See for Me (Shudder)

April 14

Wyrmwood: Apocalypse (VOD)

The sequel to the 2015 Mad Max-meets-zombies flick follows soldier Rhys who lives in a zombie-infested Australian wasteland.  Rhys is on an arc of redemption as he turns against his evil bosses and joins forces with a group of rebel survivors to help rescue a girl who holds the cure to the virus.


April 15

Choose or Die (Netflix)

After firing up a lost 80s survival horror game, a young coder unleashes a hidden curse that tears reality apart, forcing her to make terrifying decisions and face deadly consequences.

The Cellar (Shudder)

The Cellar tells the story of Keira Woods (Elisha Cuthbert), whose daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house in the country. Keira soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family’s souls forever.


April 21

Virus 32 (Shudder)

A virus breaks out and a chilling massacre rages through the streets of Montevideo. The sick become hunters, and only calm their fever by unscrupulously killing all those not yet infected. Unaware of this, Iris and her daughter spend the day in the sports club where Iris works as a security guard. When the night comes a fight without mercy is about to begin. Their only hope of salvation arrives when they discover that after each attack the infected seem to have 32 seconds of peace before charging again.


April 22

The Northman (theaters)

From visionary director Robert Eggers comes THE NORTHMAN, an action-filled epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father’s murder. With an all-star cast that includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe.


April 29

Hatching (select theaters and VOD)

12-year-old Tinja is desperate to please her mother, a woman obsessed with presenting the image of a perfect family. One night, Tinja finds a strange egg. What hatches is beyond belief.
