"Left 4 Dead" DLC Update

Thanks to a handy little update on GameTrailers TV, we now know a little bit more about the downloadable content coming to "Left 4 Dead" this spring.

As expected, the Survival mode will involve a group of four players fending off the infected for as long as they can. Survival times will be recorded, and compared online. I don't fancy myself the sort of gamer that will ever have the best time, but getting four friends together for a near infinite zombie-blasting time sounds like a party to me. That, and you don't have to wait for a full game of 8, which at times can majorly try my patience.

Also as expected, the previously unplayable maps "Death Toll," and "Dead Air" will now be playable in Versus mode online. Part of me is very excited because although both of the maps that shipped with the game are still very fun, I'm really excited to try out these new ones. I would have liked completely new maps, but I'm less disappointed in the news than most because I haven't bothered to play through all of the offline campaigns at all.

As is the case with all multi-platform DLC, PC players will be getting this update for free, and XBOX360 players will likely have to pay a small fee to cover Microsoft's costs for hosting the content. A bummer for sure, but not a huge concession for us L4D lovers to make. Expect the update this spring, as well as a special edition release of the game, which will include the new content. If you haven't purchased the game yet, you'll probably save a couple bucks by waiting, but remember, that just gives me more time to practice!
