The end has arrived. Brian K . Vaughn's 'Y the Last Man' marks the end of an epic story arc.
For those of you not in the know, 'Y The Last Man' is something you should be reading. After all, there's a movie in the works.
'Y' tells the tale of a man, Yorick Brown, and his pet monkey Ampersand, who find themselves the last men left alive in a world now populated solely by women. Some cataclysmic happening to wipes out any living creature with a Y chromosome, and the entire 60 issue arc explores the why's, the how's, and the implications of such an event.
The story is quite gripping, and while I am sad to see the tale come to end, I'm happy to say it went out while strong and finished wonderfully. You'll find yourself entranced by the adventures (or misadventures) of Yorick, the amature escape artist and those women set around him with the aim to protect, and possibly to use him for their own agenda.
As I mentioned before, there's a movie in the works, but there's little more that rumor out there for it. The current rumors put That 70's show's Topher Grace in the Yorick Brown spot, and I have to say... that's a positive slant. Sure we've had a shitload of comic book movies, but this isn't your typical 'men in tights' variety.
So, keep your eyes peeled, and for christ sake, read a comic book! You'll only look slightly more nerdy than the horror nerd we all are!
