Volbeat

Concert Review - Volbeat, Trivium

In metal circles, Volbeat has become a household name. The band is loaded with metal chops and yet concurrently appeals to genres outside just their home base. The crowds that gather to see the band perform their art range in age and fandom, covering a wide spectrum of musical taste and appreciation. A Volbeat show has practically become an affirming event – patrons are there to see great music and have a great time, in a shockingly well-behaved fashion, which isn’t unwelcome.

Album Review: Volbeat - "Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies"

Volbeat is the name on everyone’s lips these days. The hype surrounding this Danish band has been unmatched in this century by nearly anyone. Everyone wants a piece – everyone wants to be on the bandwagon. Ever since Volbeat made their big break by opening for, and being personally endorsed by, Metallica in 2009, Volbeat’s assumed potential has been limitless. Their previous record “Beyond Hell/Above Heaven” was seen as the coming out party, which means pressure is mounted on “Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies” to be a blockbuster.

Concert Review - Volbeat, Danko Jones

The word is out. Volbeat is far from a secret. Those not familiar with the Danish rock and metal powerhouse are officially behind in the count now. Playing the Best Buy Theater in the burning neon heart of Times Square, Volbeat had sold out the show weeks in advance. I had it on pretty damn good authority that industry people, journalists and an audience from all over Europe were flying into New York City to witness this show.

Concert Review: Gigantour - Megadeth, Motorhead

Not so different from the halcyon days of Ozzfest or Lollapalooza, Gigantour has become an annual staple in the music community. At the same time, the tour is among the last of a dying breed. The preponderance of festivals and their emerging popularity has caused a sort of death to the travelling circus of large tours. Those that still exist, such as the Mayhem festival and, for those inclined, the Warp tour, have been corporatized and transformed into musical billboard advertisements.

Concert Review - Volbeat

Back in November of 2009, I saw an up and coming band called Volbeat open for the legends known as Metallica. At the time, I confessed ignorance to the band; I knew their name, and I knew they were Danish, and that was about it.

Album Review: Volbeat - "Beyond Hell/Above Heaven"

Even after repeated listening, it’s difficult to give this album sort of cohesive context. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as it speaks to the creative and musical range of Danish rock/metallers Volbeat. They’ve been taking the world by seeming storm, and their rapid ascension is at least in part attributable to the wide range of talents they can showcase.
