EP Review: Cancer Bats: "Bat Sabbath: Bastards of Reality"

If imitation is the highest form of flattery, then Cancer Bats have flattered a lot of people over the years. Not only does their musical catalog reflect so many of their influences, but they’ve been known to breakout a cover or three when the occasion calls for it. On the heels of the success of their excellent cover of the Beastie Boys’ classic “Sabotage,” the Cancer Bats have dedicated an entire EP to a band they likely aren’t often associated with, Black Sabbath.

Concert Review: GWAR, DevilDriver, Cancer Bats

It was, as Billy Joel famously sang, a pretty good crowd for a Saturday. Worcester, Massachusetts was enjoying the throes of the Rock and Shock Festival, a multi day event that had come down to this: Legacy of Disorder, Cancer Bats, DevilDriver and naturally, GWAR. Who else would be appropriate for such an occasion but those undisputed lords of shock and awe?

The time-tested axiom holds that a person, by proxy a leopard, cannot change his or her spots. The jaws of this seemingly ironclad tenet have firmly clenched themselves around the world of music, backed up by a fervent fan base who reliably and predictably ridicules a band that attempts to do so.
