Burt and his sidekick run from danger

Big Guns and Bigger Monsters Shine in "Tremors 5: Bloodlines" Trailer

Ridiculous monster movies are all the rage these days and so, after an eleven year hiatus, the Tremors franchise has been given new life via the straight-to-video Tremors 5: Bloodlines. Kids today may have their Sharknadoes and their Crocosauruses, but for those of us who grew up in the 90s, the Graboids of Tremors will always hold a special place of importance.

In Bloodlines, the action has shifted from Perfection, Nevada to Africa, where soldier-of-fortune and monster-hunter extraordinaire Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) has been dispatched to deal with an outbreak of Graboids in Africa. If you missed the first four films and the short-lived TV show, Graboids are humongous, subterranean worms which hunt based on vibrations. Graboids eventually evolve into smaller, two-legged, above-ground versions called Shriekers. These then evolve into larger creatures called Ass-Blasters which use explosive gas releases to fly. Burt won’t be taking on that collection of beasties alone, however. At his side will be a tech-savvy comedic foil played by Jamie Kennedy.

The Tremors franchise has managed to be a pretty consistently fun source of wacky monster hijinks throughout its twenty-five year run. From the brief trailer, this one seems to follow in that path. Tremors 5: Bloodlines comes to DVD/Blu-Ray on Oct. 6.
