BATTLESTAR 4.16 "Blood on The Scales"

Hey Battlestar Galactica fans,

I apologize once again for this review being late. This will be the last time, I promise. I was busy at the NY Comic Con this weekend, making my rounds promoting this site and meeting some awesome people, one of which you can see in the photo I posted. Yep, that is Aaron Douglas, or "Chief Galen Tyrol" from BSG. He was really laid back and had no problem taking a picture with a weirdo like me. Right now, Aaron is promoting a new series called "Emmisary", which I am sure I will end up reviewing for BSG fans down the road.

Ok, let's get back to the reason why you are checking out this blog..... Friday's episode "Blood on The Scales" had quite the literal title. Massive Spoiler Alert -- The judicial body of the colonies, The Quorum of Twelve, was massacred at the order of Tom Zarek. They weren't the only people mowed down by machine gun fire. For about seventy five percent of the episode, it looked like Adama was going to be executed, luckily for him, and those of you who didn't have him on their death pool list, he escaped!

Every single person who commented, had Gaeta on their death list. It is too bad no one had Tom Zarek though, otherwise they would be two spots closer to a free drink!

But what a way for Gaeta to go out! In the last episode, "The Oath" , Gaeta had become so villainous that people wished for his death more than they did for Baltar's. It was such an ironic twist, considering how many evil things Baltar has done to serve himself, while Gaeta believed that his mutinous actions were for the good of the surviving humans. By the time we had reach the end of "Blood on The Scales" as well as the end of the mutiny, Gaeta has accepted defeat and is ready to be executed along with Tom Zarek.

In the final scene before his execution, Gaeta explains to Baltar (of all people) the course that his life has taken. He admits to having gotten himself involved in many different career paths before ending up as part of the crew on the Galactica. I don't know about you, but as someone in my mid- twenties, I know that experience quite well (well excluding the serving on a spaceship part). He had no idea that the Cylons were going to attack, and has literally been caught in the moment up until the time of his execution. No wonder his leg stops aching the moment before Adama gives the execution squad the order to fire. The pain in his leg is symbolic of the roller coaster ride his life has been since the show started.

Speaking of roller coaster rides, I am about ready to get off. This show is getting a little too intense for me. Before Adama was freed, I felt nauseous. At any moment, any of the main characters, that we have grown to love (or hate) over the past four years could die a disturbing death. It is no wonder that Edward James Olmos said in an interview, jokingly, that the end of the fourth season is rough to watch, and that viewers shouldn't watch it.

Being that it is still the best show on television, I guess I will just have to deal with the suspense.

Before I go, I have one theory. What if Lamkin (The lawyer guy with the cool shades) is the fifth Cylon, and that he is actually aware of that fact? Have you ever noticed that he has given council to some of the major players in this story during moments where it was possible they would be killed off? I would like to hear what you think.
