Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 8 - "Ashy Slashy"

There comes a time in every hero’s journey when that hero needs saving themselves. That time has come for Ash who, last we saw him, was trapped inside a dilapidated asylum, with Baal playing dress up as his Doctor (Dr. Peacock, I’ll have you know), and no friends around him. This week found our entire cast gathered at the asylum. The Sheriff and his wife (Ash’s old flame) are there to find their daughter, and our trio is there to rescue Ash.

After dispensing with the Sheriff and the daughter in short order, the rest of the gang sets their sights on Ash, who seems to have totally off the deepend. Decked out from head to toe in shredded camo that he seems to have found somewhere, and complete with his chainsaw and Boomstick, he is ready to destroy the book and free himself from his delusion. At no point does our fearless savior stop to question why, if he’s been in this asylum since his “psychotic break” he is still able to affix a chainsaw to his stump in the first place, but we will leave that be.

With Pablo’s convergence with the Necronomicon nearing completion, he is the key to humanity’s salvation; a fact that also puts him at great risk, however, as Ash seems hellbent on killing him. While Ruby and Pablo chase/run from Ash, Kelly finds herself locked in a room with the Ash puppet, who makes a spectacular return. The puppet is just glorious, the creepy music that seems to follow him is a treat, and this episode he even grows fangs and fights. Double cool.

Staying on pace with the rest of this season, the eighth installment is strong and well-plotted. With only two episodes to go, we may be rid of Baal, but we have a much bigger problem on our hands, and I don’t know if all the quips and bullets in the world can fix this one.
