Ash Vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 2 - "The Morgue"

In every hero’s journey there must be a point where the hero returns home, to the place it all began; this is that story. After leaving sunny Jacksonville to drive all the way to Ash’s home town of Elk Grove, Michigan the gang has a new mission and the audience has a whole new storyline. Ruby’s “children” have turned on her and are trying to get their hands on the Necronomicon, which seems like a no good situation.

Ash, Pablo, and Kelly are still not sure if they can trust the being that was, up until very recently, their arch nemesis, but for now, it doesn’t seem like they have a choice. When Ruby tells them she’s hidden the book in a corpse at the local morgue, Ash and Kelly head off to retrieve it, while Pablo stays behind to question Ruby about his increasingly frequent waking nightmares.

The Morgue is a pretty solid episode, doling out a heaping helping of background information without becoming weighed down by all that it needs to share. As far as parent-child relationships to, we get a better sense of Ash’s relationship with his father (as well as some pretty creepy insight into how Ash turned out to be the sleazy lothario that he is) and a more concrete idea of what Ruby’s children are planning to do once they get their terrifying, shadow hands on the Necronomicon.

To top off all of that great information, this episode delivers one of the best action sequences of the series to date, wherein Ash makes a huge bloody mess of the morgue before getting his head stuck up the butt of a cadaver. If the header photo is making more sense to you now, I’m sorry and you’re welcome.
