Jamie Chung and Jena Malone sign on to Zack Snyder's ("300", "Watchmen") next film "Sucker Punch". The film is set in the 50's, and follows a young woman unfairly thrown into a mental institution by her "wicked step-father", who imagines an alternate reality to hide from the pain. She then plans to escape the imaginary world, but has to steal five objects first, all while avoiding being caught by "a vile man". Whoa, I have no idea what that means but it sounds awesome.

Dimension films picks up "Kristy". The film is being compared to "The Strangers" and "Last House on the Left", and deals with a deserted college campus being besieged by a group of violent intruders.

Finally, after months of hearing about mundane, meaningless scoops from the set of Rob Zombie's "H2", comes word that we'll be seeing a trailer on Youtube this Friday. Rest assured we'll be on it when it lands.

Jonathan Skaech is highly positive about his "From a Buick 8" script, and says that Stephen King (the original author of the book) loves it. Unfortunately because of the economy, financing any film is difficult right now, but he hopes that it will go in front of cameras this fall. As for stars? He claims they "are going after big names right now". Hopefully we'll hear some more news about this adaptation soon.

"Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre may be the next big foreign slasher film, but if they expect me to do anything but belly laugh when I read about it, they better change that damn name, and fast. Teaser trailer at the link.

Talk about obscure, Fango reports that there is a remake of the UK exploitation film "The House on Straw Hill" underway. The original is apparently still banned in the UK, and deals with a writer in an old house whose assistant turns violent and homicidal.

Mick Garris hopes to be shooting Stephen King's "Bag of Bones" this summer in Maine, however some haggling must first be done, since Maine doesn't offer the kind of incentives that other states do when it comes to filming there.

If you're curious to see how the "House on Sorority Row" remake is coming along (titled just "Sorority Row"), prints of the trailer are reported to be attached to Nic Cage's "Knowing", which hits theaters this weekend. Or you can just wait until Monday when it shows up online. Probably better for your health.

Looks like there's going to be a "Lost Boys III", and Corey Feldman will be producing. Shockingly, he will also be the "focus" of the film. Weird how that works out when you're the producer, huh?

Dan Harris, writer of "X-Men 2" and "Superman Returns" has been picked to write the film adaptation of EA's "Dante's Inferno" game which is currently in development.

Horror Headlines: Friday March 13th, 2009

Oh Snap! New Line Cinema has announced that it's releasing "Final Destination: Death Trip 3D" against Rob Zombie's "H2". That date would be August 28th, 2009. For those unfamiliar with this, "H2" has been "served", it is now their opportunity to "serve back". If they do, then it's officially "on". In which case we settle all of this with a dance-off. Oooohhh, how exciting!

Valerie Cruz (Dexter), has been cast on the next season of HBO's "True Blood". We used to cover it when the site, but stopped when fan interest seemed to wain. What do you guys think, is anyone out there interested in having us pick up coverage again? Informal poll in the comments!

Trailer for "Orphan", starring Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga, about "a husband and wife who recently lost their baby [who] adopt a 9-year-old girl who is not nearly as innocent as she claims to be". Seems to be lots of evil kid movies lately. Wonder if there's something to that.

The "Night of the Demons" remake has a release date, October 9th 2009. Suspiciously absent from this announcement, whether or not it's going wide theatrically. I refuse to believe a film starring Edward Furlong, Tiffany Shepis and Linnea Quigley is playing across the country in 2009. Not that I wouldn't love to see it happen, but let's be realistic here people.

Speaking of wide releases, the remake of Stephen King's "IT" is going to be an "all out theatrical" adaptation set "in present day". I do enjoy the original miniseries, although I think we can all agree that the finale needs a much needed special FX upgrade, so I'm interested to see how this reboot turns out.
