martyrs

Good morning folks! Want to download the score of "Martyrs" for free? Well, apparently the composer of the film has given it up, temporarily, for free on the internet. Click on the link and start downloading!

Katie Holmes to star in the Guillermo Del Toro produced "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark"? Yup, it became official yesterday. The remake follows a young woman who moves back in with her father and his girlfriend, only to be hounded by a supernatural entity. It's about to start shooting, which should give me a good 6 to 8 months before the release to chastise those who preferred turtle-faced Maggie Gylenhaal in "The Dark Knight". Prepare yourselves.

Endearing Indie title of the week: "It Ate His Face". I also like how they misspell "Michigan" in the synopsis... good times.

Due to some impending financial trouble for Senator Distribution, "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane" has been moved yet again to the "to be determined" block of their releases. I officially give up. It's a fun movie that won't do well in theaters... why not just put it out on DVD and make some money? At this rate, everyone and their brother with a modicum of computer skills will have already seen it by the time it gets released. Use your heads, people.

Jerry O'Connell, he of fat-kid in "Stand By Me" fame, joins the cast of Alexandre Aja's "Piranha 3D" remake, thereby solidifying this as the silliest horror film currently in production. I can't wait.

The crew goes down into the gulag with "Martyrs" and decides if it's worth the praise, or all a bunch of hype.

Here's a cool new poster for "Martyrs", the French film which I'm sure you're all getting close to sick of hearing about. Featured on the new quad are a handful of quotes from some other horror sites, which is always a cool thing to see, even if John Shelton's name is conspicuously missing from it ;)

This is a teaser for "Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash: The Nightmare Warriors #1 and it's pretty kick ass. Just think, instead of the remakes we could be seeing this action on the big screen. Such a shame.

Alyssa Milano will be doing the vocals for Sigourney Weaver's character in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" game. That's what you call a "boner upgrade" my friend.

Variety reports on why the original poster for Park Chan-Wook's "Thirst" was banned in his native Korea. You can take a look at the comparison at the link. The original is a little sexier, but the revamped version actually turned out visually more interesting. Go figure?

Shawnee Smith to return as Amanda in "Saw VI". The producer also says it will be "a lot more violent than the previous five". Um... okay. All I want to know is when will they bring Tobin Bell back as a zombie, because we all know that's the logical place this series should go.

For a while last year I was reporting on this film called "Cleavagefield", which appears to be some kind of softcore spoof on "Cloverfield" only with you know, more boobs. Then I realized that the joke was kind of over and my coverage was a little embarrassing, so I stopped. Today there's a story that was too funny to pass up though, with news of the "Cleavage" field monster revealed! Hmmm... sort of looks like a cross between Dino from The Flinstones and one of those blowup things you see in front of car dealerships when they're having a big sale. In other words, classy.

IGN has a new "Terminator" salvation poster. Every morning when I wake up I punch myself in the face for letting McG get me this excited about one of this films. One things for sure, the man knows how to work a fanboy.

It turns out that Johnny Depp's production company is actually PRODUCING the "Dark Shadows" update that's been in the works for a while. They hope to shoot in the Fall, and although nothing's official yet, it's reported that Tim Burton is Depp's "first and only choice" for director. Stay tuned for more.

"Martyrs" hits DVD in the states on April 28th, 2009. Here's your long awaited chance to check out the hottest foreign horror property out there right now. That date is now just a little more than a month away.

In Eddie Nickerson's horror Western "High Moon" a reckless outlaw is a small town’s only hope for survival from a vicious band of werewolves. I think we're finally at the point where it's no longer "original" to put a horror film in a "Western" setting. Plus, I'm scratching my head over here trying to remember one that turned out well. Help me out guys.

Pascal Laugier, director of "Martyrs", has a lot of projects coming up. These include one that's "inspired by H.P. Lovecraft", one that's "CUJO times 40", and one that of course is a remake of "Hellraiser". Of that project he says "we're trying to respect Clive Barker's original material while bringing totally fresh angles to it".

Get ready for a nostalgia overload with "It Came From the Drive-In". In project just announced from Union Entertainment, a kid and a reclusive outcast inventor ("Back to the Future" anyone?) "team up to save their town from an army of hideous creatures using a menagerie of monster-slaying inventions when they discover that a new local drive-in theater is a gateway to the other side". This all takes place on Halloween 1959, and naturally, in 3D! Okay, I can't lie. This sounds freaking amazing.

Warner Bro's is moving Richard Kelly's "The Box" UP to October 30th, 2009. This is from its previous November release, and its 20 other release dates prior to that. Not sure if this is genius or a last ditch effort to try and squeeze something out of this project. Guess we'll find out in about 7 months.

If you want to see "The Haunting in Connecticut" early, Lionsgate is offering up a handful of free screenings across the country on March 25th, which is next Wednesday and 2 days before the official release. Check the link for a list of theaters.

The Pang Brothers, who apparently have already directed two Chinese language sequels to their film "The Eye", are prepping a third sequel to be titled "The Child's Eye" (get it), to be shot in 3D. Have any of you guys seen either of the first two sequels?

FOX has picked up the French horror film "Martyrs" for remake, pretty much ensuring that there will not be a good ending to this story. The original "Martyrs" is about a little girl found by cops, who it's revealed was held hostage for years in an abandoned slaughterhouse. There are no signs of abuse or sexual misconduct, but as they start to unravel the mystery of what happened to her, something even stranger starts to appear.

I don't usually report on "Twilight" news, but this tidbit was too interesting to pass up. It seems that Juan Antonio Bayona is in the running to direct the third film in the franchise. Bayona, a Guillermo Del-Toro protege, is the director of last year's "The Orphanage". Even if he did get the job, he'd obviously still be dealing with the source material, and the conveyor belt nature of it all, considering they've already pegged a June 30th, 2010 release. Keep in mind this is the THIRD film, not the second one, which hasn't even started yet.

I'm still really excited for "The Haunting in Connecticut", Lionsgate's late March release, but I'm not super psyched about this clip featuring a bird attack. Why? Well, I'm mighty sick of all the old ghost movie cliches, and the "animal goes apeshit" one is just about as old as they come.
