Spike has announced the nominees for the 2009 "Scream" Awards, their yearly genre appreciation show that airs on the cable network. You can cast your votes by visiting the link.
Rebecca De Mornay has signed on to Darren Lynn Bousman's "Mother's Day" remake, as the titular mother. I would make a Seinfeld joke here but every time I do it becomes painfully obvious how old I am.
MTV has optioned the pilot to a "Teen Wolf" television series, and sent out a press release with the most inane executive quotes ever. "It has more of an 'American Werewolf in Paris' feel to it" was my particular favorite. Just start punching yourself in the balls right now.
You know the recent rash of prank calls that's leading to fast food employees doing all sorts of stupid things? Well, if not you can read about it here. My point being, the guy you see in that mughshot is actually smarter than your average fast food employee. Now that's scary.

Hitler reluctantly invades Poland, but only after being provoked by warmongering Poles. The previous night, a Polish commando team shot their way into a German radio station in the border town of Gleiwitz, and broadcasted a radical call to arms against the peaceloving people of Germany. Except that it was all an elaborate sham engineered by Nazi general Reinhard Heydrich, dubbed Operation Canned Goods.
Paris Hilton to guest star on the upcoming season of "Supernatural". I would make a joke about Supernatural being lame, but I've noticed lately that its fanbase is especially rabid when it comes to these things... so I'm putting up the white flag. The show's great! Love it!
News landed today that starting on September 2nd, the unreleased episodes from last summer's "Fear Itself" will be available on FearNET. There will be 5 episodes in total.
On casting news, "True Blood's" Ann Woll joins the cast of Darren Lynn Bousman's "Mother's Day" remake. No word on what character she'll be playing. The production is shooting for a Spring release, so expect production to ramp up pretty quickly as we move into late Summer/Fall.
So Robert Rodriguez's "Machete" has the weirdest cast ever. Robert Deniro, Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez... I'm pretty sure this is some kind apocalyptic sign here. Syfy should write this into their miniseries.

This guy's scam to cheat on his wife and swindle women through Craigslist was going really well, until he got caught and they super-glued his dangle to his stomach. Awwwwww shit... I don't care what that guy did, that is NOT COOL.
Newscorp says online news will not be free for much longer. He added, "unless of course you visit bloodygoodhorror.com, that's the greatest site ever and it's totally free". Ya I thought that was weird too, but I thought it best not to question.

1945: At 9:15am, Col. Paul Tibbets releases "Little Boy" over Hiroshima and executes a hard, 159-degree turn. 40 seconds later, the Atomic Bomb detonates, yielding a 12.5 kiloton explosion and a huge, black mushroom cloud. About 45,000 people are killed immediately, and another 200,000 are killed in later years by leukemia and other radiation illnesses.
The big budget remake of "The Wolfman" has been moved to 2010 by Universal... make that FEBRUARY, 2010. The last few years have seen increasing amounts of successes in the traditional "dump" month, but still, this can't be a good sign for a big budget period piece like Wolfie.
"Surviving Crooked Lake" is described as a "sensual, intense, indie feature drama". So many qualifying words... but they've got my attention with "sensual". The plot is about a group of girls who embark on a canoe and camping trip... and well, you can pretty much write the rest of the script yourself.
The synopsis for the "Mother's Day" remake doesn't sound anything like the original "Mother's Day". Of course, for those who have seen the original Troma flick, that may not necessarily be a bad thing.
1974: Mama Cass Elliot, a very large part of The Mamas and the Papas, dies in London. Although initial reports ascribe the cause of death to choking on a ham sandwich, in actuality it was a heart attack.
Darren Lynn Bousman to direct "Mother's Day" remake/trilogy. We've known he was doing the remake for a little while now, but in this press release comes the head-scratching information that they're shooting to make an entire trilogy out of the remake of the Charlie Kaufman directed TROMA classic. Want to know something even weirder? The film is being triple-produced by Twisted Pictures, The Genre Company, and get this, Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment. Oh boy, I don't even know where to start with this story.
Keanu Reeves to star in "Jekyl", a modern day telling of "Jekyl and Hyde" for Universal. This is a stretch for him, considering it's out of his "robot/wooden alien" comfort zone. Can he still pull human off? Na, I didn't think so either.

I would say this is how you smuggle exotic birds onto a plane, but this guy got caught so not so much. Instead it's just a way to look like a dumbass on the internet, and be really mean on some birds. So, congrats on both counts, guy.
Time to feel girly... this 17 year old British girl drinks a litre of vodka and eight beers a day, meaning she could kick your ass in a drinking contest any time you're feeling brave. Of course, she's not exactly having fun while doing it, so what's really going on is I just made an unfunny joke about an even unfunnier story. Go me.
Afghanistan's ONLY pig was taken off display at the zoo so as to not panic visitors concerned about the Swine Flu. I have no idea why, but the thought of Afghanistan only having ONE pig made me laugh out loud this morning. You're welcome.

1902: Mt. Peleé erupts on the West Indies island of Martinique. A wall of superheated ash and rock cascades down the slopes, slamming directly into the community of Saint Pierre. The shockwave and intense heat even manage to destroy twenty ships in the harbor. Only two of the town's 28,000 residents survive the cataclysm.
