I can’t imagine that five minutes before the curtain rises for "Toxic Avenger: The Musical" the actors walk around and give each other the standard “break a leg” routine. No, I assume there's a bunch of ass slapping and motorboating going on for this kind of show. I could be way off base though.
Anyway, as I reported last week the show has been getting some great press and now all you cats in the NYC area have a chance to view the show for yourselves. You can check out more details on the showings below and get your tickets here for the upcoming week's performances. We're going to try and have a review of the musical up next week as well, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
He’s New Jersey‘s first Superhero and he takes to the stage in this rock ‘n roll monster of a comedy. Thrown into a vat of toxic goo by two bullies, a mild-mannered science student named Melvin Ferd the Third is reborn as a one-of-a-kind environmental crusader, The Toxic Avenger! Armed with superhuman strength and a heart as big as Newark, he’s out to save New Jersey, end global warming and woo the prettiest, blindest librarian in town. He’ll leave you laughing in the aisles as he rocks the house and saves the earth for all of mankind. The Toxic Avenger, based on the 1985 classic cult film by Troma Studios, features music and lyrics by David Bryan (keyboardist and founding member of Bon Jovi), book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) and is directed by John Rando (Urinetown).
