Snapshot: "Mama" (2013)

Supernatural horror film "Mama" is one of the films I'm looking forward to checking out when it is released later this month. One reason I'm looking forward to it? I'm a sucker for creepy ghost stories and this one is no exception. Here's the synopsis:

Limited Theater Engagement Announced for "Silent Night"

Just in time for the holiday season, "Silent Night", the remake of the 80's chesse-tastic horror classic "Silent Night, Deadly Night", is headed towards an exclusive theater engagement beginning on November 30th. The Anchor Bay film is described as a loose remake of the original classic and features the likes of Malcolm McDowell, Jaime King, and Donal Logue.

Brazilian TV Ghost Prank Goes Viral

Let it be said that I have quite overactive imagination. While I don't typically get scared of horror movies too much anymore, I am terrified that the things I watch on TV and the movies will somehow happen to me in day to day life. While this is probably the root of some deep seeded anxiety issue, I just like to think of it as a cute little quirk, so let's just go with that. That being said, I love watching shows like "Scare Tactics" that set out to prank the living daylights out of unsuspecting victims. Because it's funny, as long as it's not happening to me, you know?

Retro Trailer: "Ruby" (1977)

When I was growing up, I happened to catch the 1977 supernatural horror flick "Ruby" airing on TV and it scared the crap out of me. Since I always enjoy re-watching the movies that terrified me as a child and seeing how well they hold up today, I decided to check it out. While the movie does not hold up as well as I would have hoped, it does pack some effective scares and a pretty decent performance by Piper Laurie who plays the title role of Ruby Claire.

Retro Video Games: Night Trap

Night Trap was a survival horror game that was originally released on Sega CD in 1992 and later brought to other video game platforms. Not a good game by any stretch of the imagination, though it was one of the first horror themed video games that I ever played, so it holds a special place in my heart. The plot was simple. You play a special agent who is in charge of protecting a group of teenagers who are spending the night at a lakeside mansion, where strange things have been happening.

Retro Trailer: "Slumber Party Massacre 2" (1987)

Back in the day, one of my favorite VHS tapes from my collection was "Slumber Party Massacre." Not so much for the movie, which was just a pretty run of the mill slasher flick, but for the trailer of "Slumber Party Massacre 2", which is honestly the most hilariously crazy trailer I have ever seen in my entire life. To this day, I have not seen the actual movie, but a recent browse through some of my old VHS tapes made me think of it and I am determined to check it out in the near future.

Original TCM Footage to be Used in "Texas Chainsaw 3D"!

Website 3D Focus recently got to sit down with Markus Lanxinger, the Lead Steroscopic Engineer on the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre installment from Lionsgate, "Texas Chainsaw 3D" and he had a lot to share about the filming process and what to expect.

Horror Shorts: "Sunday Best"

There's a new horror short making it's way around the festival circuit and judging by the trailer, it looks pretty darn creepy. Clive Tonge is the director of "Sunday Best", a horror short filmed on just a 750 dollar budget and starring Bill Fellows (Downton Abbey, The Tournament), Andrew Squires and Valerie Shields. Here's the official synopsis:

Original Ending for "Little Shop of Horrors" Revealed!

The movie adaptation of the off Broadway hit musical has made it's way up the cult classic ladder over the years, but even die hard fans are in for a treat with the recent release of the Blu-ray director's cut which features the original ending to the film. The movie, which around a nerdy florist whose life begins looking up with the help of a man eating plant from outer space, originally had a much bleaker ending than what appeared in the theatrical release. The original ending was scrapped completely after test audiences complained about the negative ending.

Trailer: "The American Scream" (2012)

Michael Stephensen, the director behind the amazingly hilarious "Best Worst Movie" is back with a new documentary, "The American Scream", which takes a behind the scenes look at the efforts of the residents of a small New England town who take their love of Halloween to the extreme. A pretty cool concept for a documentary, especially considering everyone had that one neighborhood house that went all out for Halloween. (For the record, no one in my neighborhood went this crazy, but we did have a house that put together a haunted garage every year, which was awesome.)
