"The Signal"...Is this thing on?
I feel like I was misled...I have read many reviews of "The Signal" and very few have gushed over this thing. Sorry, I maybe showing my ass here, but this movie is fantastic. Maybe it's that we've all been binging in this zombie/contagion/mass hysteria phase of horror, and thus tend to toss things early if they aren't taking us where we expect to go, but Fuck! When it works it works, and this thing works in spades.

Yes it's derivative in places, even stylistically at times, but this is high craft and a solid bit of writing on a low,low budget. The triumverate of directors here aren't Soderburgh/Wes Anderson/Danny Boyle but there are places where they come damn close to delivering a movie the merges all those styles.

As for why this hasn't made it into the hearts and minds and onto the tongues of the horror public... maybe it's the aforementioned over indulegence on ambulatory maniacs or perhaps it's the personal nature of what is set up as a pandemic film. Fuck, I don't know, but watch this movie. If you've seen it and didn't like it, watch it again. While your at it , rent Billy O'Brien's "Isolation" and see if you can tell me why that motherfucker isn't being trumpeted either?

No good reviews?
Really? All I've read is people gushing over this movie. The only negative thing I've really seen is that it's uneven due to having three directors.
"I like it when they lie still like that."
The reviews I have seen except for bloody disgusting
The reviews I have seen, except for bloody disgusting, all put it in the 3 out of 5 star range. Maybe I am reading the wrong stuff. I actually disagree with it being uneven, I think that's a case of people's inability to shift with the film. The transitions to me set up the perspective swings, really well. I think if it wasn't known that there were three directors it might make it easier for people to ride the movie.
The dopeness
I definitely have gushed about this on the podcast, although I can't remember which episode for the life of me. I feel like it might have been really early in the game.
In any case, "The Signal" is 100% the dopeness. I haven't seen a ton of negative reviews or anything, but I definitely have been a little surprised at the film's inability to really click. Ten years from now, we're going to be calling this thing a "cult classic."
As for the 3 directors: it just really worked for me. I enjoyed each of the parts individually (the middle being perhaps my favorite), but I also thought that they played quite well together.
This movie was AWESOME-!! I
This movie was AWESOME-!! I saw it as an advanced sneek preview FOR FREE-!! I had gone to the theater to see "Diary of the Dead" and there was this HUGE crowd outside and when I asked about it, this guy with a clipboard said "they're showing the SIGNAL with a Q&A after the movie with the directors and two of the stars, You wanna go in?" I looked at the times for Diary saw I could catch a later time and said "sure". I had no idea what to expect and was blown away. And it was a real kick to see it with a good horror crowd-!!
And for me a great double feature.
Aim for the head-!!
