"F@*K DC" - Robert Downey Jr.
Submitted by Christine on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 07:18.
I found this interview and these quotes particularly hilarious. Robert Downey Jr. apparently feels the need to assert his loyalty to the Marvel franchise whilst discussing an "Iron Man" sequel.
“My whole thing is that that I saw ‘The Dark Knight’. I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get how many things that are so smart…and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I…still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so high brow and so f–king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’ You know what? F–k DC comics. That’s all I have to say and that’s where I’m really coming from.”
HA! I really do love Robert Downey Jr. I find much amusement in his comments. To be honest, totally and completely honest, I didn't love "The Dark Knight" as much as everyone else seems to. I didn't like "Batman Begins" when I first saw it either. I watched it on DVD a few months back and found myself deeply moved. So who knows, I may end up in love with "The Dark Knight". Right now I'll just giggle at RDJ. What a ballsy bastard. Click for the whole thing.

Yes and no
Liking The Dark Night or not, I find it a bit disheartening that the reason he didn't like it is because it was "intellectual" or artsy or whatever.
That said, the RDJ fanboy in me is just bemused by the fact that he seems to be trying to incite an East coast Vs West Cost type feud between Marvel and DC. Kind of funny when you really think about it.
Hey I loved the "Dark Night"
Hey I loved the "Dark Night" but it was more for Ledgers performance as the Joker. Iron Man was my favorite out of the two films, I didn't look at my watch once and I can't say that for TDK. there was fat that could be trimmed from that file IMHO.
Aim for the head-!!
Disagree
During my own viewing experience I never once checked my watch. And I agree with what Mark said on the podcast ep about it, that when it was over I could have watched a ton more.
I think for me that Iron Man was way more about RDJ's performance than The Dark Knight was about Ledger's. The finale of Iron Man didn't quite do it for me, at least as far as living up to the rest of the film.
(still loved it a lot though, don't get me wrong)
I definitely fall on the Dark Knight
I definitely fall on the Dark Knight side of the argument. I hated Iron Man outside of Downey Jr. The Transformers meets the Iron Giant ending just made me wanna walk out. And the product placement ,rich playboy stuff was pretty annoying.
Dark Knight's first act was not as enthralling as the rest of the film to me, but overall I think it's a pretty fantastic film. Take this all with a grain of salt, the only comic book I ever read as a kid were Cerebus and the Freak Bros.
I think you have to remember
I think you have to remember when comparing the two that Dark Knight was a sequel and therefore had set up the character, whereas with Iron Man a hefty chunk of the film was taken up showing the beginnings of Iron Man therefore not leaving much for a build up of a nemesis.
Me, I enjoyed them both but for different reasons, Dark Knight was a much darker film tyhat could have easily been rated R/18, whereas Iron Man was your typical Superhero pop-corn flick but done really well.
