Happy Friday the 13th!

So it was just brought to my attention a few days ago that tomorrow is Friday the 13th. It's kind of a running joke in my family (as I'm sure it is in some of yours) that F13 is sort of like a second Christmas to me.

Live Action "Turok" film?!? Let the speculation begin as to whether this could possibly live up to all the hype that the games never seem to.

Trent Reznor plans on developing a TV show based on his politically charged album "Year Zero", according to a very short article in today's New York Times. Having never heard the album, I can't really speak on whether or not this is a good idea.

First pic from the Alex Proya directed, Nicholas Cage starring film "Knowing". The film is about a time capsule found containing predictions for the future as well as things that have already came true, that leads a man to believe his family will have a hand in horrible things about to happen to humanity. It's really hard to take Cage seriously at this point (no, not bees!!!!), but I'm somehow kind of interested in this anyways.

Here's the first trailer for Alexandre Aja's "Mirrors", starring Kiefer Sutherland. Maybe the mirror can explain to Sutherland why the last season of "24" sucked so bad. If not, the movie still looks cool.

In Real People News:

Man declared dead, wakes up just as surgeons are preparing to remove his organs. Surgeons noticed when he started breathing and "showing signs that he was feeling pain". Jesus christ that's terrifying.

Man gets nailgunned in his head, goes to the hospital, and the surgeon removes it with a hammer. He probably charged him about a grand to do it too... what a world we live in folks.

Residents of the Aegean Island of "Lesbos" have proposed a law that would ban Homosexual women from calling themselves "Lesbians", since that's what people who inhabit the island call themselves. If only they would think of the amazing tourism potential. Hell, I had already booked my flight halfway through the article before I found out what it was really about.

On this day in history:

1994: Nicole Brown Simpson and her male friend Ronald Goldman are savagely murdered in front of Simpson's condominium complex in Brentwood, California. The most plausible suspect turns out to be Nicole's estranged husband O.J., who is arrested for the crime a month later.

Apocalypse Mixtape Part VII: The Final Sacrifice

The Cold War was the war that just kept on giving. The space race, Yakov Smirnoff, Invasion U.S.A.; none of these would exist without the paranoia and constant fear that with the press of a button the world would be reduced to a cinder and we'd all start wearing clothes made out of used tires and spikes, driving sweet tricked-out dune buggies and fighting in a gladiator ring for the pleasure of Tina Turner.

Welcome to the Comic Century

Unless you've been napping for the last couple of years, you've probably noticed that superheros have become a mainstay at the theater. This weekend, "The Incredible Hulk" becomes the second of Marvel Entertainment's properties to hit screens in 2008, and other comic properties will follow soon thereafter. The flow of comic book adaptations hasn't always been this strong though, and in fact, toward the end of the 20th century, one wouldn't have been out of line for thinking we'd never see some of comic's biggest names put to film.

Horror Headlines 6/10/08

Megan Good talks both "Saw V" and "Unborn". She'll be starring in both films this year. In the interview she talks about the challe... oh who am I kidding, I only linked to it because she's super hot. Enjoy.

Have you heard of this Korean movie called "Butcher"? "Butcher" is a "Hostel" type film told entirely from the POV of the victim. Apparently the Koreans didn't get the memo that "Hostel" type films are so out this year. France, if you would kindly pass it along once you're done with it that would be great, thanks.

Samurai Zombie Western, 'Nuff said. The film just finished shooting and they're aiming to be done with post some time in September. In the meantime, if you're looking for more Zombie Samurai I have to recommend the Japanese film "Versus". Check it out, it's good stuff.

Attack of the Show's Blair Butler has shot a pilot for VH1 called America's Next Top Zombie Idol. Now I'm all for more Horror on television screens, but that's just stupid.

In Real People News:

Scientists at the McMurdo base in Antarctica have just received their final shipment of supplies before their long sunless winter, and it contains 16,500 condoms. If the crew is anything like the one depicted in "The Thing", this may not be as awesome as it sounds. The thought of Keith David nuzzling up next to me on a cold Antarctic evening is just about the most terrifying mental image I've ever had.

There's a reason why laypeople like you and I don't use Molotov cocktails... It's really easy to light yourself on fire like a dumbass. This is really the kind of thing you should leave to mafia henchmen and Grand Theft Auto characters.

Australia bans the sale of bongs, so enterprising headshop owner relabels them as "water pourers". Nice. Also, major lolz to the author for using the term "cannibas addict". To quote the immortal Bob Saget, have you ever sucked dick for weed? I didn't think so.

Baby born with second penis on his back, and mom has it removed. Bummer, when that kid grew up he would have been able to have one hell of a threeway.

On this day in history:

1881: A phantom vessel appears in the sky to the passengers and crew of the ship Bacchante, including Price Albert Victor and Prince George, both sons of the Prince of Wales.
